Pam Leibow
I am one lucky person. I have been in Sweet Adelines for 30 years and I cannot imagine what my life would have been like without it.
I moved to Connecticut just about the time Millennium Magic was chartering. I was the first member NOT to be a charter member. However, I was very much at home with these wonderful women from Day One and it is only occasionally that they make fun of my New York (well, Bronx) accent.
My first Sweet Adeline chapter was in Region #15, the Shoreline Chapter in Rye, New York. After 4 ½ years there, I decided to drive further and joined the Ramapo Valley Chapter in northern New Jersey. What a magic carpet ride that was - - two International gold medals and two international silver medals (with a few regional gold medals in between) all in ten years. Then, my family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and remained there for 11 years. During that time, I was a member of the Enchanted Mesa Show Chorus. Actually, I remained a member of my New Mexico chapter until very recently. I was a dual member and competed with Enchanted Mesa to win Region #21’s contest in 2002 and I was on stage with them at International in Phoenix in 2003. After that, I resigned since it was really quite unrealistic and difficult for me to be in two choruses so far apart geographically.
Millennium Magic has brought me much joy. The unique circumstance of not having a Director is nice for a change. We all have a say in what we do, and since we all have to do things together, I feel this is a good thing. Everyone’s ideas are welcome and respected. I love watching people’s faces when, after seeing this very small chorus get on stage, they hear the sound of a much larger chorus. I get such a kick out of that! Winning medals is just a part of being a Sweet Adeline and not every member of our organization is lucky enough to enjoy this aspect of our “hobby”.
I have two grown sons and three grandsons. I love playing games and cards. I am guilty of becoming a computer game addict, specifically Spider Solitaire, Hearts, and Free Cell. I know it's a big waste of time, but it's better than nothing.
I look forward to happy and harmonious years with Millennium Magic. Anybody out there who would like to share this unique experience - - come to a rehearsal and see for yourself how it works.
