When I was 16, my Choir Director, Bob Long, took me to my first Sweet Adeline rehearsal, as he was directing the Marlboro, MA Chapter. I fell in love and was hooked! I sang tenor there for four years. Then I met a wonderful guy named Dave Gunas. We were married and in 1962 we moved to CT where I joined Mountain Laurel Chorus. I sang with them, winning many medals, for over 30 years as a Lead. I also belonged to 13 different quartets during these years, winning Regional Championships twice with The "Chansonettes" and The "Illusions". I even got to make it to the top twenty at International once with the "Illusions".
I’m thrilled to be in a new competing quartet; “Magic Touch” The best part is that the Lead is my daughter, Heidi Oswell! I switched from Lead to Baritone to sing with Heidi. Our super tenor is Annette Pulcinella and our wonderful Bass is Arlene Isaac. We are all members of Millennium Magic!
We are all a part of our great Division A small chorus, Millennium Magic. We won the International Silver Medal in 2002 and this year we won the International Gold Medal, first in the world in 2003, in the Harmony Classic at IES!
Before this, I had several years with the big chorus experience at The Sound of New England Chorus, winning regionally and competing many times at the International level. Then the opportunity came to experiment and form our own small chorus. We, (most of us), had been singing with a small group called "Strictly A Cappella”, for a while. So it made sense to give it a try. We’ve won 1st place Division A chorus regionally for four years in a row and 5th place over all each time as well. Our big thrill is singing without a Director so we can have eye contact with our audience. It truly is like singing in a big quartet! Go Millennium Magic!
February 2008, will be my 50th anniversary as a Sweet Adeline, WOW- what a wonderful experience singing with all the people I love! I just can't imagine what my life would be like if I hadn't discovered the joy of singing four part harmony!

If you've heard it said that things run in families, then the three people in this photo will prove it's true! From left to right are- Trudy MacNamee, Hank Ricker and Susan Gunas.
These three siblings have been singing Barbershop all of their lives. It all began around the piano with our Mom and Dad. We sang in church, school glee clubs, solo work and harmony (of course!).
I was the first to join Sweet Adelines, followed by my sister Trudy in 1960. We sang in the same chorus in Marlboro, MA and competed in quartets together (later, we competed against each other in chorus and quartets), which drove our Mom, Thelma Ricker, crazy!
Shortly there after, brother Hank began singing Barbershop. He had to show up both of his sisters by winning several International Gold Medals with the "Alexandria Harmonizers"! He comes to most of our competitions and teaches us tags- what FUN!!

This picture is the "real quartet" in the lives and hearts of Dave and Susan Gunas! We call them the "Front Four". Our four children, from left to right- Lisa, Heidi, Dave and Jason.
Would you believe that a few years ago, at my 50th Birthday party, they got together with "Charlie Fahey" as a coach and learned two whole songs and sang in front of 300 people?! My hubby, Dave, also hired "Ambiance" to come and sing for me as well- what a thrill! As much as I love Ambiance, I was more touched by our kids taking the time to sing for me with such love. What a memory!
The "Front Four" have also blessed us with 12 Grandchildren, who live all around us in our family compound. What a wonderful life!!!!

This is our Olympic size pool and Cabana! We call it "Deep End Cafe" and it's where we host our "Coach's Retreat", as well as being used for Millennium Magic's pleasure!
